Experts dordle value both. A gray letter removes possibilities. If you know that several common letters are absent, you can immediately eliminate many potential answers.

This is why good Dordle players mentally maintain a list of what is impossible as well as what is possible. Solving isn't just about discovering letters. It's also about removing them. Your opening word gathers clues. Your second guess expands your knowledge. Later guesses use elimination and patterns to narrow the possibilities until the answers become clear.
