Artist Commission: Bruce’s Beach Public Art

The City of Manhattan Beach is seeking qualifications from professional artists for a public art project at Bruce's Beach. This large-scale, three-dimensional artwork will embody themes of reflection, connection, and healing, contributing to the cultural and historical significance of the site. Artists with experience in durable public art installations are invited to apply. Black artists, and those with a connection to the site are encouraged to apply.

Project Overview
The commissioned artwork will be an enduring and meaningful addition to Bruce’s Beach, engaging the community while honoring the location’s history.

Bruce’s Beach holds deep historical significance. Once a thriving Black-owned resort in the early 20th century, it was unjustly seized by the City in the 1920s. The site has since been recognized for its importance in the ongoing dialogue about racial justice and reconciliation. The commissioned artwork will serve as a space for contemplation, acknowledgment, and community connection.
