Start Date: June 2024

Job Posted: April 5, 2024

About: Museum Exchange is the first digital platform for art donations. Our end-to-end service connects donors with museums, hospitals, universities, and other nonprofit organizations across North America and manages every step of the donation process. We make gifting art easy and accessible, while allowing institutions to expand and diversify their donor base and collections. Our mission is to unlock philanthropy nationwide, simplify the donation process, and help bring under-recognized artists to the public's attention. Since launching in 2021, Museum Exchange has engaged hundreds of donors, built a network of more than 350 institutions, and facilitated over 1,000 gifts of art across 45 US states and Canadian provinces.

Role: We are seeking an Associate Curator of Engagement to help extend our reach and impact, providing greater access to art for diverse audiences. Reporting to and working alongside the Chief Growth Officer, you will help develop and maintain our network of museum members and partner with them to build public collections at a national scale. Your primary responsibilities will include nurturing relationships with museum professionals, researching and writing about artworks being offered as donations, and generating interest in and placing artworks from our catalogues. This is a remote position with occasional travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Help identify and enroll new museums to join the platform
  • Help identify and enroll new donors of art and respond to inquiries about suitability of artworks for our catalogues
  • Assist in assembling a robust catalogue of artworks to be offered as donations each quarter
  • Research artists and artworks represented in our catalogues
  • Prepare short accompanying biographical texts to be featured in our catalogues and lists of appropriate museums to guide our outreach efforts
  • Author content for various communication channels including newsletters, website blog posts, social media posts, and annual reports; potential opportunities for original scholarship, possibly in collaboration with museum members
  • Maintain regular correspondence with museum members to ascertain their collecting priorities and artists or movements they are seeking; recommend appropriate artworks from our catalogues for acquisition and respond to their inquiries about specific artworks
  • Liaise with the platform operations team to identify and address any issues that arise during the donation process and ensure that we maintain the highest level of service for our customers and properly care for artworks entrusted to us
  • Supervise interns and part-time researchers
  • Participate in conferences, panels, and art fairs to promote philanthropic giving, advance awareness of Museum Exchange, and deepen relationships with new or existing customers and members of the broader arts and philanthropic communities
  • Maintain up-to-date customer records in our Customer Relationship Management program

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree  preferred) in art history, fine art, museum studies, or equivalent
  • Expertise in modern and contemporary art
  • Minimum of three years of curatorial experience at a museum or foundation, or related experience
  • Experience working with collections and knowledge of museum acquisition processes
  • Proven ability to foster new relationships and partnerships
  • Experience writing clear, jargon-free texts about art to reach specialized and general audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude, outgoing, collaborative, personable and professional demeanor
  • Highly organized, proactive, independent and self-motivated team player

Compensation:

  • $65,000-$75,000 annual salary commensurate with experience
  • Employer-sponsored medical, dental, and vision benefits

Working Here:

  • Fast-paced environment with a collaborative, highly talented team possessing deep expertise in the art and technology industries
  • Flexible hours and paid time off; expected to generally be available during regular business hours 10am - 6pm EST Monday to Friday
  • Remote-first work allowing you to work where you choose
  • Weekly meetings via video conference, occasional in-person meetings, and annual company offsite
  • Occasional travel to attend conferences, panels, and art fairs
